Universities and programs
Alsace hosts two prominent universities in Strasbourg and Mulhouse, with a student body exceeding 80,000, including 20% international students. These institutions offer over 1,000 programs across diverse fields and grant more than 300 types of degrees, available in initial, continuing, or alternating formats.
In addition, Alsace is home to 14 prestigious schools specializing in engineering, art, architecture, business, and management.
Both universities are part of EUCOR, the European Campus, which also includes the universities of Basel, Freiburg, and the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology.
University of Strasbourg
The University of Strasbourg enrolls nearly 60,000 students annually across 35 departments on 6 campuses. It offers 700 programs and over 300 degrees, spanning all major fields of higher education.
The university is globally recognized, ranking among the top 150 universities in the Shanghai Ranking, with notable positions in life sciences (top 30) and chemistry (top 50). It boasts 18 Nobel laureates, including 4 currently active, and is a founding member of the League of European Research Universities (LERU).
Renowned for its strong connections with businesses, it also stands out for its scientific research capabilities. The university is supported by 3,500 researchers and faculty across nearly 80 research units, with 60% of its research collaborating with CNRS, Inserm, or Inra.
University of Haute-Alsace
The University of Haute-Alsace (UHA) encompasses 4 faculties, 2 University Institutes of Technology (IUT), and 2 engineering schools, serving about 11,000 students across its Colmar and Mulhouse campuses. It also features around fifteen research laboratories and centers, along with a center for university apprenticeships and a continuing education service.
UHA is well-regarded for its professional training programs, including over 35 apprenticeship courses, and its cross-border initiatives, which offer more than 10 binational or trinational tracks. It is also known for its strong partnership-driven research conducted in direct collaboration with businesses.
The IUTs in Mulhouse and Colmar have a two-year success rate of 77.7%, placing them 5th in France for their performance.
Eucor – The European Campus
Eucor is a trinational consortium of five universities in the Upper Rhine region, spanning Germany, France, and Switzerland. The member institutions are the University of Basel, the University of Freiburg, the University of Haute-Alsace, the University of Strasbourg, and the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT).
This partnership brings together about 17,000 researchers, 10,000 doctoral students, and 120,000 students in a region known for its strong economy and research excellence, situated at the heart of Europe. Eucor aims to foster a scientific community with a distinct profile, promoting collaboration without barriers and extending its reach internationally.
The Alsace Tech network
Alsace Tech is an association established in 2007 that unites 14 prestigious schools in engineering, architecture, art, design, and management across Alsace. This collective aims to showcase their programs and collaborate on joint initiatives.
The network encompasses over 10,000 students across 80 specialized disciplines at the master’s and doctoral levels. Each member institution is linked with leading research laboratories known for their international reputation.
Many other learning opportunities
Alsace offers a variety of training opportunities, especially in the health sector. The region hosts about ten Institutes of Nursing Training (IFSI) and provides options for preparing for the State Midwifery Diploma.
In Strasbourg, you can also find:
- Two renowned schools of public administration: the National Institute of Public Service (INSP) and the National Institute of Territorial Studies (INET).
- The Institute of Political Studies (IEP) of Strasbourg, which offers a European Studies program and a master’s degree in European Political Science.
- The International Space University (ISU), which provides multidisciplinary education in the space sector and attracts students from around the globe.
Orientation and career guidance
Universities in Alsace offer specialized services to support career orientation and integration. The University of Haute-Alsace has the Information and Orientation service (SIO), while the University of Strasbourg features the Espace Avenir. Both are dedicated to helping students with career decisions, internships, and job searches.
Several forums and fairs throughout the year offer valuable information and networking opportunities. The Alsace Tech Forum, the largest recruitment fair in the Grand Est region, connects professionals and helps in finding internships or jobs. Additionally, the Salon Formation Emploi Alsace is another key event focused on employment opportunities.

The University of Strasbourg, the University of Haute-Alsace, and the Strasbourg School of Management support student business ventures through several initiatives. These include raising entrepreneurship awareness, integrating entrepreneurial pathways into their curricula, and providing support throughout the entrepreneurial process.
